Mutations and traits multiply your Brainrots' income. A properly stacked unit can earn 50x more than its base rate. Understanding these systems is essential for late-game progression. Updated for The Return update (January 2026).
Mutations vs Traits
Mutations are permanent visual changes that multiply income. Each Brainrot can only have one mutation.
Traits are stackable bonuses that add to mutations. A single Brainrot can have multiple traits.
They work together: Mutation multiplier × Trait multipliers = Total income boost.
All Mutations
| Mutation | Multiplier | How to Get |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | 2x | Natural spawn |
| Diamond | 3x | Natural spawn |
| Rainbow | 5x | Natural spawn (rare) |
| Lava | 4x | Lava event |
| Bloodrot | 10x | Bloodmoon event |
| Galaxy | 6x | Galaxy event |
| Radioactive | 3x | Admin Abuse |
| Void | 4x | Admin Abuse |
| Cursed | 0.5x | Avoid this |
Bloodrot is the best mutation at 10x, but it only appears during Bloodmoon events.
Natural Mutations
Gold, Diamond, and Rainbow spawn naturally on the conveyor belt:
| Mutation | Spawn Rate |
|---|---|
| Gold | ~5% of units |
| Diamond | ~2% of units |
| Rainbow | ~0.5% of units |
Server luck increases these rates. Buy luck during Admin Abuse for better odds.
Event Mutations
Some mutations only appear during specific events:
Lava Mutation (4x)
- Triggers during Lava events
- Brainrots on conveyor get Lava effect
- Lasts for the event duration
Bloodrot Mutation (10x)
- Appears during Bloodmoon events
- Extremely rare even during events
- The most valuable mutation
Galaxy Mutation (6x)
- Admin-triggered during special events
- Usually during major updates
- Second best after Bloodrot
All Traits
| Trait | Multiplier | How to Get |
|---|---|---|
| Taco | 1.5x | Taco Tuesday rain |
| Nyan Cat | 2x | Nyan Cat event |
| Strawberry | 3x | Strawberry event |
| Bubblegum | 1.25x | Bubblegum event |
| Bombardiro Crocodilos | 1.5x | Lava event |
| Festive | 1.5x | Christmas event |
Traits stack with each other and with mutations.
How Traits Work
During trait events:
- Special items fall from the sky (tacos, nyan cats, etc.)
- Items hit Brainrots in your base
- Hit Brainrots gain that trait permanently
- Multiple traits can stack on one unit
Position your best units where falling items will hit them.
Stacking Example
A Mythic Ganganzelli Trulala with:
- Base income: $9,000/s
- Rainbow mutation: 5x
- Taco trait: 1.5x
- Nyan Cat trait: 2x
Total: $9,000 × 5 × 1.5 × 2 = $135,000/s
That's 15x the base income from stacking.
Best Mutation Targets
Apply mutations to high-tier units for maximum value:
| Priority | Unit Type | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Secrets | Highest base income |
| 2 | Brainrot Gods | Strong base, common enough |
| 3 | Mythics | Good balance of value |
| 4 | Legendaries | Only if heavily mutated |
Don't waste rare mutations on Commons or Rares.
Getting Mutations
Natural spawns:
- Watch the conveyor belt
- Buy server luck
- Server hop for better rates
Event mutations:
- Attend Admin Abuse events
- Position units for trait drops
- Stay for the entire event
Stealing:
- Target mutated units in other bases
- Events are prime stealing time
- Mutated units are always worth the risk
Cursed Mutation Warning
The Cursed mutation reduces income to 0.5x. Avoid it.
If you accidentally get a Cursed unit:
- Sell it immediately
- Don't waste base slots on it
- It's worse than a vanilla unit
Mutation Priority
When choosing between units:
- Bloodrot anything > everything else
- Galaxy Secret > Rainbow God
- Rainbow Mythic > Diamond God
- Diamond Legendary > Gold Mythic
Higher mutation on lower tier can beat lower mutation on higher tier.
