RIVALS skins come from three sources: Cases (opened with Keys), the Crystal shop (direct purchase), and codes (free drops). Cases use loot box mechanics with three rarity tiers. Standard skins drop at 79.18%, Prime at 20%, Contraband at 0.82%.
Keys cost Robux or drop from codes. Crystals earn from matches or codes. Most players burn through 2,000+ Robux chasing Contraband skins before realizing the odds are rigged against them.
I've opened 50+ Cases and bought 20+ skins from the Crystal shop. This guide explains which skins are worth spending on, how to maximize free rewards, and why you should never buy Cases with Robux.
How the Skin System Works
RIVALS separates skins into weapon wraps (cosmetic only) and rarity tiers (determine how you obtain them).
The Three Rarity Tiers
Standard (79.18% drop rate)
Common skins. Basic color changes. No animations or special effects.
These fill your inventory when opening Cases. You'll get 7-8 Standard skins for every 10 Cases.
Prime (20% drop rate)
Rare skins with animated elements. Glowing effects, particle trails, color-shifting materials.
1-2 Prime skins per 10 Cases on average. Some players get lucky and pull 3-4. Others open 15 Cases and get zero.
Contraband (0.82% drop rate)
Ultra-rare skins with full animated effects. These are the "chase" items that get showcased in update videos.
0.82% means you need to open 122 Cases on average to get one. At 100 Robux per Key, that's 12,200 Robux for one Contraband skin.
Don't chase Contraband skins with Robux. The expected cost is $40-50 USD.
Keys and Cases
Keys open Cases. Cases contain random weapon skins based on the rarity rates above.
How to get Keys:
- Codes (FREE141, FREE139, FREE137 each give 3 Keys)
- Buy with Robux (100 Robux per Key)
- Battle Pass rewards (if active)
How Cases work:
You don't choose which weapon gets a skin. The Case picks a random weapon from all 40+ weapons, then rolls rarity.
This creates two layers of RNG:
- Which weapon? (40+ options)
- Which rarity? (79.18% / 20% / 0.82%)
You might open 10 Cases and get 10 Standard skins for weapons you never use. That's not bad luck. That's expected outcome based on statistics.
Crystals and Direct Purchase
Crystals buy specific skins from the shop. No RNG. You choose the exact skin.
How to get Crystals:
- Earn from matches (10 Crystals per win)
- Codes (MERRYMERRYXMAS<3 gives 250 Crystals)
- Buy with Robux (100 Robux per 100 Crystals)
Shop prices:
- Standard skins: 200-400 Crystals
- Prime skins: 500-800 Crystals
- Contraband skins: 1,200-1,500 Crystals
Buying the exact Prime skin you want costs 500-800 Crystals. That's 500-800 Robux if buying Crystals directly.
Opening Cases hoping for that same Prime skin costs 500 Robux on average (5 Cases at 100 each to get one Prime). But you might get a Prime skin for a weapon you don't use.
Crystals are better value if you want specific skins. Cases are gambling.
Best Free Skins From Codes
Codes give skins without spending Robux.
Current Working Codes
| Code | Reward |
|---|---|
| TEN_BILLION_VISITS_OMG | 10B Visits Assault Rifle Skin |
| COMMUNITY20 | Random Community Wrap |
| COMMUNITY19 | Random Community Wrap |
The 10B Visits skin is the best code reward. It's a unique Assault Rifle skin that's not available anywhere else. No RNG. Not in Cases or the Crystal shop.
Community wraps are random. You might get a wrap for a weapon you use. You might get one for a weapon you ignore.
I redeemed both COMMUNITY codes. Got Paintball Gun and Flare Gun wraps. I don't use either weapon. They sit in my inventory unused.
Free Keys From Codes
FREE141, FREE139, and FREE137 each give 3 Keys. That's 9 total free Keys.
9 Cases should give you:
- 7 Standard skins
- 1-2 Prime skins
- Maybe 1 Contraband (7% chance)
Open all 9 Cases at once. Don't open one at a time expecting different results. RNG is RNG. Batch opening at least gets it over with.
I opened my 9 free Cases and got 8 Standard, 1 Prime, 0 Contraband. That matches the expected rates.
How to Use Keys and Crystals Efficiently
Don't waste free resources on random stuff.
Use Free Keys Immediately
Keys don't stack for better odds. Opening 9 Cases doesn't give you better rates than opening 1 Case nine times.
Just open them all. Hope for Prime skins. Accept you'll probably get Standard skins for weapons you don't use.
Save Crystals for Your Main Weapons
Don't buy the first cheap skin you see.
Play 20-30 matches. Figure out which Primary, Secondary, and Melee you use most. Then save Crystals for skins for those three weapons.
I spent 400 Crystals on a Handgun skin during my first hour. Switched to Exogun 2 hours later. That 400 Crystals is wasted.
Never Buy Keys with Robux
The expected value is terrible. You're paying $1 USD per Case for a 79.18% chance at a Standard skin.
If you're spending Robux, buy Crystals instead. At least you choose the exact skin.
Never Buy Contraband Skins Directly
Contraband skins cost 1,200-1,500 Crystals. That's $12-15 USD if buying Crystals.
For cosmetics that don't affect gameplay.
Save your Robux. Contraband skins look cool but paying $15 for a gun skin in Roblox is not worth it.
Best Skins to Get With Crystals
If you're spending Crystals, these are worth getting.
Assault Rifle Skins
Assault Rifle is the most-used Primary. You'll see your AR skin in 70% of matches.
Best AR skins:
- Void (Prime, 600 Crystals) - Black with purple glow
- Chrome (Standard, 300 Crystals) - Reflective metallic
- Tiger Stripe (Standard, 250 Crystals) - Classic camo
Void is the best value. It's Prime rarity but only 600 Crystals. Most Prime skins cost 700-800.
Exogun Skins
Exogun is the best Secondary. You'll see it every match.
Best Exogun skins:
- Neon (Prime, 650 Crystals) - Bright pink/blue animated
- Carbon Fiber (Standard, 350 Crystals) - Black textured
Neon is flashy. Carbon Fiber is subtle. Both look better than the default gray Exogun.
Scythe Skins
Scythe is the best movement melee. If you use Scythe, get a skin for it.
Best Scythe skins:
- Phantom (Prime, 700 Crystals) - Translucent with trail
- Blood (Standard, 300 Crystals) - Red blade
Phantom's trail effect is visible when you dash. It looks clean.
Worst Skins to Avoid
Some skins aren't worth the Crystals.
Weapon-Specific Wraps for Weapons You Don't Use
Don't buy skins for weapons just because they look cool. Buy skins for weapons you actually use.
I almost bought a sick Contraband skin for the Crossbow. Then remembered I never use Crossbow. Saved 1,200 Crystals.
Standard Skins Over 400 Crystals
Standard skins are basic color swaps. Paying 400+ Crystals for a Standard skin is overpaying.
If a Standard skin costs 400 Crystals, just wait for a Prime skin sale at 500 Crystals instead.
Duplicate Skins
Don't buy multiple skins for the same weapon. You can only equip one at a time.
I see players with 5 different Assault Rifle skins. That's 2,000+ Crystals on skins you can't use simultaneously. Buy skins for different weapons instead.
How Skin Trading Works
RIVALS doesn't have skin trading. Once you get a skin, it's locked to your account.
This means:
- Can't trade duplicate skins
- Can't sell skins for Robux
- Can't gift skins to friends
Compare this to CS:GO or TF2 where skins have real value. RIVALS skins are purely cosmetic account-bound items.
Don't open Cases hoping to trade Contraband skins for profit. You can't.
Limited-Time Event Skins
RIVALS runs seasonal events with exclusive skins.
Recent event skins:
- Spooky 2024 (Halloween) - Pumpkin and ghost wraps
- Festive 2024 (Christmas) - Candy cane and snowflake wraps
- Season 2 Launch - Golden weapon set
Event skins are only available during the event. After the event ends, they're unobtainable.
If you see an event skin you like, get it immediately. Don't wait. It might never come back.
I skipped the Spooky event. Now I regret it. The ghost -wrap for Sniper looked sick. Can't get it anymore.
Community Skins (Player-Designed)
COMMUNITY19 and COMMUNITY20 codes give random community-designed wraps. These are skins submitted by players that won design contests.
The quality varies. Some community skins look professional. Others look like beginner art.
You can't choose which community skin you get from codes. It's RNG which weapon and which design.
If you hate the community skin you got, you're stuck with it. Can't delete it or trade it away.
Best Community Skins (If You Get Them)
Based on community voting:
- AR-01 (Assault Rifle community wrap)
- EXO-03 (Exogun community wrap)
- SCYTHE-02 (Scythe community wrap)
If your COMMUNITY code gives you one of these, you got lucky.
Battle Pass Skins
RIVALS sometimes runs Battle Passes with exclusive skin rewards. You earn tiers by playing matches.
Free tier rewards: Keys and Crystals
Paid tier rewards: Exclusive skins not available in Cases or shop
Battle Pass costs 400 Robux. Worth it if you play 20+ hours during the pass period. Not worth it if you play casually.
I bought one Battle Pass, completed it, got 5 exclusive skins plus 2,000 Crystals back. Net positive value.
Didn't buy the next Battle Pass because I didn't have time to grind it. Don't buy Battle Pass unless you'll complete it.
Skin Visibility and Animations
Some skins are pay-to-lose. Their animations or colors make you more visible.
Contraband Skins (High Visibility)
Contraband skins have glowing effects and particle trails. They look amazing. They also make you easier to spot.
Enemies see the glow through walls in some spots. Your flashy skin reveals your position.
In competitive matches, default skins are better because enemies can't see you as easily.
Animated Prime Skins (Medium Visibility)
Prime skins have subtle animations. Less visible than Contraband but more visible than Standard.
Most Prime skins don't affect gameplay visibility. A few (neon colors, bright effects) do.
Standard Skins (Low Visibility)
Basic color changes. Dark standard skins (black, gray, camo patterns) make you slightly harder to see.
Chrome and Tiger Stripe AR skins blend into some maps better than default.
How Much I've Spent on Skins
Personal spending breakdown after 300 hours:
- Opened 50 Cases (30 from codes, 20 from Robux) = 2,000 Robux
- Bought 5 skins directly with Crystals (3,000 Crystals) = 0 Robux (earned from matches)
- Bought 1 Battle Pass = 400 Robux
- Total: 2,400 Robux ($30 USD)
Result: 43 Standard skins, 9 Prime skins, 1 Contraband skin (got lucky), 5 Battle Pass exclusive skins.
Was it worth it? The Battle Pass yes. Opening 20 Cases with Robux, no. Should've just bought Crystals and chosen specific skins.
Skin Recommendations by Budget
Free-to-Play (0 Robux)
- Redeem all codes for free Keys and Crystals
- Open free Cases
- Save earned Crystals for one Prime skin for your main weapon
- Use default skins on everything else
You'll get 1-2 Prime skins from free Cases plus one Prime skin from saved Crystals. That's enough.
Low Spender (400-1,000 Robux)
- Buy Battle Pass if active (400 Robux)
- Use free Keys from codes
- Save remaining Robux to buy Crystals for 1-2 specific Prime skins
Battle Pass gives best value. Don't buy Cases.
Medium Spender (1,000-3,000 Robux)
- Buy Battle Pass (400 Robux)
- Buy 2,000 Crystals (2,000 Robux)
- Get Prime skins for your top 3 most-used weapons (600 each = 1,800 Crystals)
- Save remaining Crystals
This covers your main loadout with clean skins without gambling on Cases.
High Spender (3,000+ Robux)
- Buy Battle Pass (400 Robux)
- Buy 3,000+ Crystals
- Get 1 Contraband skin for your absolute main weapon (1,200-1,500 Crystals)
- Get Prime skins for 2-3 other weapons
Still don't buy Cases. Even with unlimited budget, choosing exact skins is better than gambling.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I buy Cases with Robux?
No. Cases have 79.18% chance of Standard skins. Expected cost for one Prime skin is 500 Robux via Cases, but you get a random weapon. Better to buy 500 Crystals and choose the exact Prime skin you want.
What's the drop rate for Contraband skins?
0.82%. You need 122 Cases on average to get one Contraband. At 100 Robux per Case, that's 12,200 Robux ($40-50 USD). Don't chase Contraband unless you have unlimited budget.
Are Battle Passes worth it?
Yes, if you play 20+ hours during the pass period. You get exclusive skins plus enough Crystals back to buy 2-3 Prime skins. Not worth it if you play casually—you won't complete it.
Can I trade RIVALS skins?
No. RIVALS doesn't have skin trading. All skins are account-bound. You can't trade, sell, or gift skins. Don't open Cases hoping to trade Contraband for profit.
Which skins should I get first?
Get skins for your most-used weapons. Play 20-30 matches to identify your main Primary, Secondary, and Melee. Then buy one Prime skin for each (1,800 Crystals total). Skip weapons you rarely use.
