How Mutations Work
Every fish has a base chance to spawn with a mutation. This chance is modified by:
- Bait mutation bonus (Aether gives +20%)
- Enchant mutation bonus (Cursed gives +75%, Mutation Hunter II gives +30%)
- Server events (Mutation Madness gives +15%)
- Location (some areas have higher base rates)
These bonuses stack additively. With optimal gear, you can hit 95%+ mutation chance on every catch.
Best Mutation Farming Build
Rod: Any rod works, but higher luck means rarer base fish (which sell for more when mutated)
Enchant: Cursed I (-75% luck, +75% mutation chance)
Bait: Aether Bait (+20% mutation chance)
Total mutation bonus: +95%
The Cursed enchant's -75% luck penalty doesn't matter for mutation farming. You're not hunting rare fish, you're hunting mutations on any fish.
Mutation Farming Locations
Kohana Volcano Best for mid-game mutation farming. Fish sell well and the area is easy to access.
Lost Isle Higher base fish values mean mutated fish sell for more. Requires a boat.
Esoteric Depths Highest fish values in the game. Mutated mythics here sell for millions.
I farm mutations at Kohana until I have 5M coins, then switch to Esoteric Depths for maximum profit.
Server Events for Mutations
Mutation Madness +15% mutation chance for all players. Stack this with your gear bonuses.
Mythic Boost Doesn't directly affect mutations, but rare fish + mutations = massive value.
Check the Blackboard on Fisherman Island before every session. If Mutation Madness is active, drop everything and farm.

Cursed vs Mutation Hunter II
Cursed I gives +75% mutation chance but -75% luck. Best for pure mutation farming.
Mutation Hunter II gives +30% mutation chance with no penalty. Best for balanced play.
If you only care about mutations, Cursed wins. If you want rare fish AND mutations, use Mutation Hunter II with Leprechaun I.
Mutation + Shiny Combo
Fish can be both mutated AND shiny. A Shiny Crystallized Mythic is the ultimate catch, selling for 15M+ coins.
To maximize shiny + mutation odds:
- Aether Bait (+20% mutation, +20% shiny)
- Prismatic I enchant (+35% luck, +15% shiny)
- Fish during Shiny Hour event
This build sacrifices some mutation chance for shiny odds, but the payoff on rare combos is massive.
Common Mutation Mistakes
Using Leprechaun for mutation farming Leprechaun boosts luck, not mutations. Use Cursed or Mutation Hunter instead.
Farming in low-value areas Mutated common fish are still cheap. Farm in Kohana or Esoteric for better base values.
Ignoring server events Mutation Madness is free +15% mutation chance. Don't miss it.
Selling mutations too fast Check the mutation type before selling. Crystallized and Void mutations are worth holding for the right buyer.
